We followed the well beaten path for many years. Then one day we started questioning it all.
First, we questioned why we had to work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for someone else when we could make more money in less time working for ourselves. So we quit our "good' jobs Now Alison is a licensed psychotherapist and life coach and a college professor working remotely. Ron is a licensed home inspector and realtor. Together as a family we also renovate or "flip" a few houses a year.
Then we questioned why we had to send our kids to school for 6 hours a day, 180 days a year. We decided to homeschool our four children so we would have more time together as a family doing what we love most - going on adventures, traveling, learning by living and spending time in nature.
It's hard to go against the grain but we have learned that it's okay to live a life that others do not understand. After losing Ron’s dad and biological father and Alison’s sister within 12 months, we decided to reject the script that enjoying life and traveling is in the future. We decided we were going to live each day to the fullest.
What does it mean to raise mavericks? Mavericks are independent-minded people who want to achieve what has never been achieved before. They are people who are daring, innovative, influential, and willing to take chances.
In a world that often encourages children to follow along with what the crowd is doing; we feel it is important that our children dream big, be courageous, and develop the confidence to take their own path in life.
